How to Choose a Disc Duplicator

How to choose a Disc Duplicator
How do I know whether to buy a “Tower” duplicator or an “Automated” duplicator?

It depends on the application. Let’s look at a few examples.

Church
Your church wants to produce CDs right after the service. We call this “Discs on Demand,” and for this we recommend a manual tower system.

With a manual tower system, based on the number of individual drives, more discs can be produced in a shorter time frame. The number of drives you need will depend on how many discs you would like to produce at once. If you have a volunteer staff we recommend a simple CD to CD unit, without an internal hard drive. This allows you to pop in the master CD right after the sermon, press the “start” button, and watch your discs burn.

Church with Bookstore
If you plan on duplicating CDs to mail out or sell through your bookstore, consider an automated duplicator. The advantage to this option is unattended operation. An automated duplicator does not need constant attention, so this choice is particularly useful if your time or volunteer staff is limited. Be careful, though, if you have non-technical volunteers performing your disc duplication. An automated unit can be confusing to someone who does not understand digital files. Many larger ministries will have both manual towers and auto loading duplicators to meet a variety of needs.

Business/Production
There are many different applications for CD duplication in this market. This is what it boils down to: a tower duplicator requires an individual to manually load and unload each disc, while an automated duplicator can be setup and left unattended to duplicate CDs. The automated unit can greatly cut down on labor costs, but automated units with multiple drives are more costly up-front than multi drive towers.
