The most important factor to consider in choosing an LCD projector is the light characteristics of the room you will be using it in. The general rule is: the more available light there is in the room the brighter you need the projector to be in order to present a quality image. Projector brightness also decreases as you move the projector further away from the screen.
If you determine after answering the above questions that your room will be in full light most of the time, then as a rule you will want to look at projectors with an ANSI Lumen rating of at least 2000 and preferably more. Less bright projectors are usually fine for situations where you can dim the main lights or have a darkened area where the projection screen is.
