With this hanging mic you get natural sound from any angle and immunity from RF interference |
Perfect for speech, theater, orchestra and choir sound reinforcement and recording, the U853R cardioid condenser hanging microphone from Audio-Technica is equipped with UniGuard™ innovations that offer unsurpassed immunity from radio frequency interference.
With a consistent cardioid polar pattern, the US53R mic offers natural sound from any angle, and superior gain before feedback. It is phantom powered and features an integral 80 Hz low-cut UniSteep® filter that reduces pickup of low-frequency ambient noise.
The U853R microphone accepts interchangeable elements, available in cardioid, hypercardioid, omnidirectional and UniLine™ line cardioid polar patterns.
- Designed for suspension over choirs, instrumental groups and theater stages
- Superior off-axis rejection for maximum gain before feedback
- UniGuard™ RFI-shielding technology offers outstanding rejection of radio frequency interference (RFI)
- UniSteep® filter provides a steep low-frequency attenuation to improve sound pickup without affecting voice quality
- Accepts interchangeable elements to permit angle of acceptance from 90° to 360°
- Low-profile design with low-reflectance finish for minimum visibility
- Available in two colors: black (U853R) and white (U853RW)

| Applications for the Audio-Technica U853R |
- Choir Microphone
- Hang the U853R above the choir. This always works best with a stage riser. Use 3 or 4 hanging mics for a small to mid sized choir of 12 to 24 members and add more where necessary. See more about miking a choir.
- Theatre Microphone
- Hang mics where necessary to pick up the dialog, the feedback rejection will help in this application.

| These are a good workhorse mic for their price point. However, I tend to like
and am willing to pay for larger diaphragm mics on the choir to give it more
body and less tinniness (like an AKG C351B). That said, this one works as well
or better than similar ones from other manufacturers and it's the one I tend to
go to. |
