Wireless Microphones obsoleted by FCC
Yes, it’s true. The FCC has now ruled that wireless microphone users can no longer use the 700Mhz frequency band effective June 12, 2010. That also includes wireless In-Ear Monitor systems. Wireless microphone manufacturers and dealers are now offering rebates to end-users who purchase replacement wireless microphones and In-ear Monitor systems before June 12, 2010. Follow these links for more information: Shure Rebate Program. Sennheiser Rebate Program.
Nate Anderson, of arstechnica, wrote a great article on the switch which you can read here.
So, despite tight tech budgets for this year, everyone using 700Mhz wireless will need to replace their wireless microphones before the middle of 2010. That includes churches, stadiums, arenas, schools and corporate event users! I know the technical sales guys at CCI Solutions will be happy to explain the switch and help you apply for any rebates that you can earn to lower the cost.
