Chrome makes everything better, and Allen & Heath has taken that philosophy and applied it to their Qu Series of digital mixers to add shiny new features that take an already awesome series of mixers to a whole new level! You get features such as Automatic Mic Mixing, feedback eliminating Spectrogram, and high-contrast metallic finish controls to match the "Chrome" moniker. The Qu-24 Chrome Edition is also equipped with all the features that have made the Qu Series a hit around the world including 24 recallable AnaLOGIQ™ preamps, 25 motorized faders, 800 x 480 color touchscreen, ProFactory mic presets, 32 x 30 USB audio interface, four FX engines, compatibility with A&H's ME personal mixing system, Qu-Pad iPad app control, and more!
The twenty-four AnaLOGIQ microphone preamplifiers found on the Qu-24 offer incredibly pristine, true-to-source performance thanks to their high-class, low-latency 24-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. Plus, these preamps are digitally controlled with zero-crossing detection and a padless 1 dB-step gain stage so you'll be sure to get transparent audio with minimal distortion and noise, while still offering a warmth that can be hard-to-find with digital consoles.
No matter what console you're working with, if you can't easily access the functions you need at any given moment, all the power in the world won't make up for an unintuitive workflow. Thankfully, the Qu-24 features an 800 x 480 color touchscreen with a dedicated rotary encoder that gives you super-fast access to all settings and parameters. Plus, with dedicated keys and screen tabs, you'll be quickly guided to meter and RTA views, FX racks, channel processing, USB audio control, scenes, setup menus, and more. You also get the SuperStrip, which provides a set of single function physical controls to instantly access gain, high-pass filter, 4-band parametric EQ, gate, compressor, graphic EQ, and pan.
This mixer is also an outstanding choice for users switching from an analog console, because it gives you the familiar mixer layout of one fader per physical input, so you don't have to navigate through multiple layers to access the channels you need to control, which saves you time and avoids potential confusion.
One of the great advantages of digital mixing is the ability to save and recall scenes, making for faster setup times and easier transitions between sets. Qu allows you to store and recall up to 100 full scenes, and channels and mixes can be locked down to prevent unwanted changes. Qu-24 comes with 25 motorized ALPS faders, 24 are for instant access to all input channels and masters over two layers, and a dedicated master fader that dynamically follows the Mix selection. There's also a third Custom layer available that allows you to combine inputs FX sends, FX returns, DCAs, and Mix masters in any combination that suits your needs.
ProFactory Mic Presets
In working with leading microphone manufacturers and top engineers from Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, and Shure, Allen & Heath has developed a library of EQ presets for a large number of popular and industry standard microphones to make it even easier to get the right sound. You get presets for vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums, brass, and woodwinds that give you the best possible starting point for whichever microphone you choose. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, these presets will save you time and let you focus on the big picture.
The Qu Series features onboard dynamics and effects that were created from the same algorithms from their renowned iLive touring series. You get 4 stereo iLive FX engines that feature painstakingly crafted emulations of legendary classic reverbs, gated reverbs, delays, modulators, and more.
The Qu-24 is also equipped with an integrated USB recorder that provides a total of 18 channels at 24-bit/48 kHz audio quality straight to a USB flash drive or hard drive. You get 16 mono channels along with a selectable stereo pair, making it incredibly easy to get multitrack recordings of all your performances. Plus, you can also playback audio a USB drive through the Qu-Drive port, so if you've got set break music you can get it playing through this mixer in no time.
Automatic Mic Mixer
Automatic Mic Mixing (AMM) helps you to manage the levels of multiple microphone inputs in applications such as conferences, meetings, and panel discussions where a number of microphones may be open at the same time. AMM helps to reduce background noise and potential feedback, while also ensuring that each speaker's contributions are heard loud and clear. The D-Classic dynamic gain sharing algorithm found on the Qu mixers is inspired by industry standard automixers, and up to 16 microphone sources can be mixed at once, and each channel includes a priority setting which determines the "weight" in the total system gain.
The Qu-24's onboard USB audio interface is capable of streaming up to 32 selectable tracks to your Mac or Windows PC, and returns from the computer can be easily assigned to the input channels on the mixer. It is plug-and-play with any Core Audio-based DAW on a Mac, and there are also ASIO- and WDM-compatible drivers available for Windows-based systems. Plus, MIDI control is transmitted over the USB connection as well, allowing you to map the faders to tracks on your DAW for greater mixing and editing control during sessions.
Allen & Heath's Qu-Pad app for the iPad allows you to EQ and mix monitors onstage, move around the venue and adjust the PA, or mix right in the middle of the audience. The app connects to your Qu mixer over Wi-Fi and gives you instant access to all live mixing parameters and settings. The Qu-You app allows up to seven performers to control their own monitor mixes using any iOS or Android drvice, and frees up the engineer to focus on the main mix for the audience. Simply connect your Qu mixer to a Wi-Fi router or access point using the Network port and you're set.
dSNAKE Remote Audio Racks
Although the Qu-24 comes with plenty of I/O on its own, if you'd prefer to reduce your cable clutter, you can use its onboard dSNAKE™ port to connect to Allen & Heath's line of remote stage boxes — AR84, AB168, and AR2412 — to create larger I/O counts and to have greater flexibility in mixing location. The proprietary dSNAKE protocol boasts a super-low transport latency of 105 microseconds over CAT5 cable runs up to 390 ft (120 m) away.
ME Personal Mixing System
The Qu series is fully compatible with Allen & Heath's ME Personal Mixing System. The ME-1 personal mixer expands available monitor mixes and gives each performer complete control over their own mix. Any number of ME-1s can be chained from the dSNAKE port, or from an AR2412 or AB168 stagebox connected to the dSNAKE port.
