The Yamaha TF3 digital mixer is the middle point of their TF Series of digital consoles that offer powerful and intuitive features that mixing engineers the world over will love to get their hands on. Yamaha developed these mixers to have an intuitive interface that's easy to learn if you're a beginner, but advanced enough to ensure that professionals have everything they need to get the job done right. With that in mind, the heart of these consoles is centered around their TouchFlow Operation™, which is optimized for their onboard touchscreen panels, which allow for control over most functions and parameters with the use of already familiar touch-based gestures such as swiping and pinching. These consoles are equipped with plenty of other powerful features as well including onboard effects, motorized faders, easily recallable presets and scenes, recallable D-PRE™ microphone preamps, optional Dante networking via the NY64-D Dante expansion card (sold separately), and wireless mixing options via PC or mobile devices.

TouchFlow Operation
This console has been designed to provide intuitive and fast workflow based around the central touchscreen, which allows you to carry out most operations without needing to leave the touch panel. However, the layout and availability of physical controls means that whether you've worked on other digital consoles, analog consoles, or even if you've never operated a mixer before, the TF console will feel comfortable and allow you to get results quickly.

The touch panel makes use of the latest technology for the smoothest possible operation. The display content has been specifically designed for easy, direct accessibility with a layout that promotes the most natural, efficient mixing. Operating the touch panel is as easy as shaping your sound with your fingertips.

Touch & Turn Knob for Extra Precision
For those times you need to get surgical with adjustments to EQ or other parameters, there is a physical Touch & Turn knob available next to the touchscreen that will adjust any setting that you currently have selected on the touch panel. There are also four User Defined Knobs below the touch panel that can be assigned to control compressor threshold, EQ gain, or other parameters that you need to access quickly and directly while mixing. The knobs always affect the currently selected channel when used.

Traditional Overview and Selected Channel Interfaces
Similar to Yamaha's renowned CL series consoles, operating the TF console is based around Overview and Selected Channel windows. In Overview, the display shows the settings for eight channels at a time for a quick but detailed look at multiple channels, while the Touch & Turn knob provides direct access to gain, 1-knob EQ™, 1-knob COMP™, gate threshold, effect send level, pan, and other parameters. If you touch the highlighted parameter a second time, the display will switch to the Selected Channel view for when you need further detail and finer control of a particular channel's settings.

1-Knob COMP & 1-Knob EQ
Dialing in effective gain, compressor, and EQ settings can be a challenge even for experienced engineers, and Yamaha has included features in the TF consoles to make setting these up faster and smoother.

Using a compressor in the right way can make all the difference with a mix - bring guitars to life, add punch to bass, tighten up a snare, or make sure a vocal cuts through the mix. The 1-Knob COMP found here can do all of this quickly and easily without the need to adjust multiple parameters. Yamaha first introduced 1-Knob COMP in their analog consoles, but it has been further refined in this digital version for even better results. The same concept has been applied to the 1-Knob EQ to attain great-sounding results quickly and easily. A Vocal Mode makes it easy to achieve a clear, well-defined vocal sound, while the Intensity Mode offers control over EQ curves that you can either select or create from scratch.

You can even use 1-Knob COMP and EQ on the output channels of this mixer as well, so you can quickly add overall output compression or EQ that matches the room and audience size with ease. The output 1-Knob EQ has a Loudness mode in place of the Vocal Mode, effectively increase the sound pressure level while maintaining optimum sound as you rotate the knob. Both the 1-knob COMP and 1-Knob EQ provide quick access to the full compressor and EQ displays, so you can fine tune settings as required.

QuickPro Presets™
While developing the TF series, Yamaha worked with well-respected engineers and major microphone manufacturers such as Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, and Shure to create a selection of "QuickPro Presets" that give you optimized configurations for a wide variety of microphones and output equipment so you can be sure you're getting the most out of your gear, even if you aren't a seasoned audio veteran. On the input side, Yamaha has prepared more than 100 presets ranging from vocals to drum sets, all of which were precisely tuned using actual microphones and instruments for true-to-life settings that you'll come back to time and time again. Yamaha also developed presets for a variety of speaker systems and in-ear monitors with variations to accommodate venues and room sizes. These presets can be called up and are ready for action at the press of a button, but if you like to add your own personal touch, you can use these presets as a starting point and then dive in to fine tune them to your preference. If you've tweaked a preset to perfection, you can save it as an additional preset to recall at any time, which can help save you setup time during performances. You can even use 1-knob EQ and 1-knob COMP in conjunction with the QuickPro Presets, so you can streamline your setup even further to get down to business as quickly as possible.

Recallable D-PRE™ Microphone Preamplifiers
Yamaha's TF consoles come equipped with recallable versions of their acclaimed D-PRE microphone preamplifiers. The quality of the preamplifiers found on any console can make a huge difference on the overall quality of the sound of the mix, and Yamaha spared no effort in creating these preamps. With D-PREs, you get a flat, wide frequency response that keeps the tone and nuance of the original sound, so you're hearing sources as they were meant to be heard.

Eight Powerful Processing/Effects Units
The TF Series consoles come loaded with eight powerful processing/effect units that feature the same type of SPX processors that have become standards in recording and live sound applications. You'll find a total of 19 programs ranging from reverb and delay, through modulation effects like flanger and chorus, to multiband compression. The AUX 1 - 8 buses and main output channels also include 4-band parametric EQ and a 31-band Flex12 graphic EQ, which are both invaluable to optimizing speaker response and eliminating feedback.

Wireless Control via Software Applications
The TF consoles are equipped with an Ethernet port on their I/O panel, which allows the console to connect to a network, which you can then use to connect wireless devices such as a laptop or iOS/Android device to perform offline console setup, wireless mixing, or wireless on-stage monitor mixing with the TF Editor, TF StageMix™, and MonitorMix applications.

TF Editor is an application for Windows and Mac computers that provides a complete interface for offline editing and setup of TF consoles, including scene and preset management capabilities. TF Editor can also be run online at the same time as the TF StageMix and MonitorMix applications, and if connected wirelessly your PC can function as a convenient remote mixing device. Up to three devices running TF Editor or StageMix can be connected at the same time.

TF StageMix is an iPad application that allows you to wirelessly mix anywhere in the room, so you can be sure that no matter where someone is seated or standing, they will get a great sounding mix. You can also use this application as an extension of the console's own interface while at the mixer so you've got extended control over your mix.

MonitorMix allows individual wireless AUX mixing from up to ten iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android devices simultaneously. Each performer has convenient control over the AUX buses assigned to them without having to deal with complex setup. They can also create personal Group settings such as all levels on one fader for even easier adjustments.

Optional Networking and Stagebox Solutions
If you're looking to expand your TF system to include a stagebox, Yamaha offers a powerful yet simple solution for high-quality, low-latency audio. There are two separate components needed for this setup - the NY64-D Dante expansion card for the TF mixer, and the Tio1608-D Dante-equipped stagebox (both sold separately).

The NY64-D Dante expansion card mounts in the rear expansion slot found on the TF mixer and allows for the transmission and reception of up to 128 channels (64-in/64-out) of uncompressed 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio data via a Dante™ audio network. This card connects to the Tio1608-D stagebox via a single CAT5e network cable and makes it possible to create a versatile stagebox system with up to 48 inputs and 24 outputs.

The Tio1608-D stagebox is equipped with 16 XLR-1/4" combo inputs and 8 XLR outputs, with the preamplifiers able to be remotely controlled from the TF console when connected via a CAT5e cable to the NY64-D expansion card. Because you only need a single cable, there's no need for heavy multi-cables, cutting down on clutter and cost. The Tio1608-D is equipped with two Dante ports, allowing you to daisy-chain up to three boxes together for a total of 48 inputs and 24 outputs without the need for extra network switches.
